Dr Kanak is a dual-boarded physician specialising in both Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. His educational foundation includes an MBBS from India and an MD from the USA. His career spans multiple continents and combines international training with local experience in Singapore's healthcare system.

He serves as a Senior Consultant at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. His niche within Emergency Medicine includes ultrasound diagnostics and wilderness medicine, providing essential skills in both urban and remote emergency scenarios. His proficiency in point-of-care ultrasound has been integral in improving patient outcomes, while his knowledge of wilderness medicine equips him to handle medical crises in challenging and resource-limited settings. He is one of the founding members of the Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit, the first ambulatory care unit in Singapore. In addition to clinical practice, Dr Kanak takes pride in mentoring and teaching medical students and Medical Officers, contributing to their professional growth. He holds positions as Clinical Senior Lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Clinical Educator at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, and has received the NHG Teaching Award for Senior Doctors. He was responsible for the development of medical examinations for residents and has been involved in the residency programme, becoming a Physician Faculty of the NHG Residency Programme.
