Biodata

Dr Kaan Hung Leng is a General Surgery Consultant at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. Awarded the President’s Scholarship in 2007, Dr Kaan studied Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She attained her MBBS in 2012 and was awarded the NUSS Medal for Outstanding Achievement. Upon graduation, she commenced her residency training as a Clinician Scientist in General Surgery. She became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2013 and completed the Master of Medicine (Surgery) in 2014. In 2018, she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and was accorded Specialist accreditation in General Surgery by the Ministry of Health, Singapore. 


Dr Kaan has been involved in research since her undergraduate days. Her research interests focus on innovation and MedTech. She received the Singapore-MIT Undergraduate Research Fellowship in 2011, the ExxonMobil-NUS Research Fellowship for Clinicians in 2018, and completed the Master of Clinical Investigation in 2019. A recipient of the NMRC Research Training Fellowship, she is currently pursuing her PhD at NUS. 

In 2022, she was awarded the College of Clinician Scientists INEX-OSCAR Award for best presentation in clinical innovation. She is the principal investigator for multiple international and national grants such as the Innovation Norway Grant, the NMRC Clinician Innovator Development Award, and the NMRC Clinician Innovator Award. She is also the first author of numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and holds patents for her clinical inventions. 

Dr Kaan is a medical educator who provides teaching to undergraduate medical students. For her efforts in teaching, the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine awarded her the Special Recognition Award for being a role model to the Medicine graduating class of 2019.
