Laboratory testing is the procedure of testing a sample of blood, urine or other substance from the body to obtain information of one's health. It helps doctors to:

- plan or evaluate treatments

Do I need a doctor's referral?
Yes.
How can I book an appointment for lab testing?
- No prior appointment is needed.
- After you obtain a doctor's referral, just:
- Visit any NHG Diagnostics Centre
- Go to the counter for registration with:
- your doctor’s referral form
- your identity card / work pass / passport
- your doctor’s referral form
- Visit any NHG Diagnostics Centre
Do I need a doctor's referral to go for lab tests or blood tests?
Yes, you need a referral form/memo from a registered medical practitioner.
My doctor referred me to go for lab tests. How do I book an appointment?
You don't need to book an appointment for laboratory tests. After you obtain your doctor's referral, just go to any of our centres that provide Laboratory Testing service.

What must I prepare before going for my lab tests?
Please check with your doctor because it depends on what tests you need to do. Some tests may require fasting for 8 to 12 hours. If you are on any medication or supplements, do discuss with your doctor.
Do I have to pay if I want a duplicate copy of my report, film or CD?
Yes, you will be charged for any duplicate copy of your report, film or CD.

Can I request for X-ray or lab tests without seeing a doctor?
Due to Ministry of Health requirements, you need a referral from a registered medical practitioner for all tests, except mammogram.
You can request for a mammogram without a doctor's referral if you are eligible for screening under the Screen For Life programme.

Do I have to book an appointment for my test?
Yes, you need to book an appointment for these tests:
- BMD
- mammogram
- spirometry
- ultrasound

You don't need to book an appointment for X-ray, laboratory tests or ECG.
Do I need to fast before my appointment?
It depends on what test you are going for. Please contact your doctor to find out the requirements for your test.
Can I use my MediSave for my tests at your centre?
Yes, you can use your MediSave if you meet the eligibility guidelines by the Ministry of Health. You can approach our staff during your visit to find out more.
What do I need to bring for my appointment?
Bring your identity card, your doctor's referral form (where applicable) and any relevant documents.
What must I prepare before going for a lab test?
Please check with your doctor as your blood tests may be fasting or non-fasting:
Fasting test
- Fast for 8 to 12 hours before your test. You can drink plain water to avoid dehydration.
- If you are on any medication or supplements, inform your doctor in advance.
Non-fasting test
- No special preparation needed.
If urine sample is required
- Keep your bladder full before the sample is collected.
What must I bring on that day?
- Your identity card, work pass or passport
- Your doctor's referral form that contains:
Your personal particulars
- Name, MCR and signature of referring doctor
- Clinic name, address, contact number and stamp
- Test(s) to be performed
What is the procedure like?

- Our staff will issue you a clean bottle and advise you on the proper collection procedure.
Blood sample
- Our staff will disinfect the selected site on your arm with an alcohol swab.
- A needle will be inserted into your vein to draw your blood.
- It might cause some slight discomfort but rest assured that our staff are trained to make your experience safe, quick and comfortable.
How do I make payment?
Credit cards (Masters/VISA), PayNow and NETS are preferred.
How do I collect my report?
- On-site tests: You can collect from our counter within 1 hour.
- Send-out tests: You can collect from our counter in a few days' time.
