About

Dr Lau Hoon Ying is a UK-trained Consultant Anaesthetist specialising in Perioperative Medicine, high-risk cancer surgeries, and major trauma. She has clinical interests in Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) and shared decision-making that supports both clinical care and patient empowerment.

She completed her Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in the United Kingdom in 2019 following advanced training at the Barts School of Anaesthesia in North East London. During this time, she gained clinical experience at the Royal London Hospital's major trauma centre, Homerton Hospital's bariatric services, and Moorfields Eye Hospital. She subsequently completed a one-year Perioperative Medicine Fellowship at University College Hospital (UCH) London / Westmoreland Street Hospital, alongside an MSc in Perioperative Medicine in UCL London.

Drawing on her experience in clinical pathways and healthcare systems, Dr Lau has developed ERAS protocols tailored for high-risk cancer and trauma orthopaedic surgeries. She has also been involved in establishing and restructuring Pre-Assessment Clinics (PAC) at both the Luton & Dunstable Hospital (UK) and RIPAS Hospital (Brunei), with a focus on patient safety and preoperative workflows. She advocates for treating the patient as an active partner, incorporating evidence-based practice alongside consideration of patients’ personal values and circumstances.
