Adjunct A/Prof Martin Chio is a Senior Consultant Dermatologist at the National Skin Centre (NSC), Singapore. He is involved in both clinical dermatology and administrative work and brings a broad perspective to the management of skin conditions across different patient groups.
His clinical work includes detection of skin cancers and treatment of sexually transmitted infection (STIs) at NSC & skin conditions in patients living with HIV. He manages patients with a range of conditions in these areas, with an approach that balances clinical judgement, patient needs, and practical treatment planning.
A/Prof Chio contributes to departmental work beyond the clinics through clinical governance of the centre and involvement in quality and patient safety programmes; he is an avid clinician-educator affiliated with the four medical schools in Singapore and the faculty of the National Dermatology Residency Programme, and he supports primary care by teaching family physicians. He also participates actively in academic and professional activities and continues to contribute to dermatology practice in Singapore, with work that reflects a steady commitment to patient care and clinical practice.
Throughout his career, A/Prof Chio has been consistently recognised for his leadership, clinical dedication and contributions to the medical community; his commitment to public service and patient care is evidenced by the National Day Award (The Long Service Medal, 25 years), the Singapore Healthcare Humanity Award and the NHG Outstanding Citizenship Award. A highly regarded educator, he has twice received the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence and the NHG Education Leaders Award, and his academic and research foundations were established through prestigious fellowships from the Ministry of Health (HMDP) and the National Medical Research Council, alongside best dissertation and paper awards from UCL/LSHTM and the Dermatological Society of Singapore; most recently, his humanitarian efforts were honoured as a finalist in the President’s Volunteerism & Philanthropy Awards 2025 and the AfA Red Ribbon Award.
