A/Prof Chia Yew Woon is a Senior Consultant Cardiologist and Intensivist, and Director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He is one of the few physicians dually trained and accredited in both Cardiology and Intensive Care Medicine, having completed his fellowship at The Alfred Hospital Intensive Care Unit, a quaternary referral centre in Australia. He also holds a Master of Science in Healthcare Quality and Safety from Harvard Medical School, and serves on the Singapore Medical Council Complaints Panel.
A/Prof Chia has a strong interest in haemodynamic monitoring, mechanical circulatory support, post-cardiac arrest management, and critical care ultrasonography, in which he has been leading educational efforts both locally and in the region. He is the Singapore National Investigator for several multi-centre trials in Critical Care Cardiology. On the education front, he coordinates undergraduate medical education in Cardiology and serves in the Internal Medicine Residency Programme and Cardiology Senior Residency Programme, and is Chair of the Intensive Care Medicine Residency Advisory Committee for post-graduate medical training. In recognition of his contributions, he has been awarded the Dean's Honour Roll for Teaching Excellence, the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence, and the Best Teacher and Top Ten Teacher Awards on multiple occasions.
A/Prof Chia is currently Chair of the Singapore National Post-Cardiac Arrest and Survivorship Workgroup, President of the Society of Intensive Care Medicine Singapore, Board Member of the Chapter of Cardiologists in the Academy of Medicine Singapore, and Adjunct Associate Professor at both the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University. He is also an Advanced Life Support Task Force member of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation, which reviews scientific evidence on resuscitation for national and regional resuscitation councils.
