Adjunct Assistant Professor Bryan Ang is Deputy Head of the Glaucoma Service and Head of Clinical Services, at the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute (NHGEI) @ TTSH, Singapore.
In his undergraduate studies at the National University of Singapore (NUS), Dr Ang was placed on the Dean's List for multiple years, obtained Distinction in Surgery in the Final M.B.B.S, and was recognized as 2nd Best Candidate in Surgery in his cohort. He then received the Gold Medal as the Best Candidate in the postgraduate Masters in Medicine examinations. In 2016, Dr Ang was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (London).
Dr Ang is a well-established Cataract and Glaucoma specialist. His surgical techniques are recognized globally, winning multiple prestigious awards, including Best Video (2021) at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting, 1st Prize (2023) and 2nd Prize (2019) at the World Glaucoma Congress, and 1st Prize (2026) at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons Meeting. Dr Ang is invited to teach and speak at many international conferences, including the Asia-Pacific Glaucoma Congress, Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting, American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons Annual Meeting, International Congress on Glaucoma Surgery, World Ophthalmology Congress and the World Glaucoma Congress. Dr Ang’s contributions have been recognised with the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award, and he has been invited to contribute to international expert guidelines, including the World Glaucoma Association Consensus Series.
Dr Ang holds adjunct Assistant Professor appointments with both the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University. He serves in the NHGEI Residency Core Faculty and trains residents in advanced cataract surgery. Dr Ang’s exceptional contributions to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching have been recognised with the “Top Twenty Teachers Award” (2024 and 2025), the “NHG Teaching Award for Senior Doctors” (2025) and the “NUS Medicine Special Recognition Award” (2025). Dr Ang currently holds several research grants focusing on glaucoma surgery and diagnostics, and he has published, to date, more than 70 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. He is an International Research Collaborator with the Mayo Clinic, USA, an adjunct Clinician-Scientist with the Singapore Eye Research Institute, and sits on the editorial boards of the journals Scientific Reports, Ophthalmology and Therapy, and Frontiers in Medicine (Ophthalmology). Dr Ang is a member of the National Glaucoma Subspecialty Committee, College of Ophthalmologists, Singapore, and is the immediate-past Treasurer of the Glaucoma Association of Singapore (2023-2025).
Dr Ang is passionate about delivering quality service in healthcare. In 2014, Dr Ang was awarded the Singapore Health Quality Service Award (Silver) and was previously appointed Quality Reporting Officer for the NHGEI @ Tan Tock Seng Hospital (2020-2023).
