Diabetic retinopathy is a leading cause of blindness in Singapore. Bleeding blood capillaries can damage the retina in patients with diabetes mellitus, and lead to blindness. It is important for patients with diabetes mellitus to have their eyes screen annually for early detection of diabetic retinopathy.
