The Upper Limb & Sports Surgery Service provides comprehensive, specialised care for disorders and injuries of the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee, with a strong emphasis on sports-related and activity-related conditions. We care for patients across the full spectrum of activity levels, from recreational athletes to competitive sports participants, as well as individuals whose work or lifestyle places high functional demands on the upper and lower limbs.
Our service manages both acute injuries, such as ligament, tendon, and cartilage injuries, and chronic degenerative conditions arising from overuse, ageing, or prior trauma. Treatment is grounded in evidence-based non-operative care where appropriate, and advanced surgical management when required, including minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques and complex reconstructive procedures.
We adopt a patient-centred and goal-oriented approach, aiming to restore function, relieve pain, and enable patients to return safely to work, daily activities, and sporting pursuits. Care plans are individualised and supported by structured, sport- and activity-specific rehabilitation, delivered in close collaboration with physiotherapists and rehabilitation specialists to optimise recovery and long-term outcomes.

Achievements, Education, Training & Research
The Upper Limb & Sports Surgery Service is committed to advancing sports surgery care through excellence in clinical practice, education, and research. Our service actively contributes to the development and dissemination of best practices in sports-related orthopaedic care across the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee.
Our faculty regularly participate in and teach at local and regional sports surgery and trauma courses, and are actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate orthopaedic training. Through these educational roles, we contribute to the training of future surgeons and allied health professionals with a strong emphasis on safe return to sport and function.
The service is engaged in clinical research, prospective registries, and outcomes tracking initiatives focused on sports surgery procedures, rehabilitation protocols, and patient-reported outcome measures. Return-to-sport rates, functional recovery, and durability of outcomes are key metrics used to guide continuous quality improvement and evidence-based care.
