Singapore's First General Medicine-Led Menopause Service
The Menopause Clinic at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) is a specialist service under the Department of General Medicine, providing comprehensive evidence-based care for women experiencing perimenopause and menopause.
Why Menopause Care Matters
Singapore has one of the most rapidly ageing populations in Asia. As of 2023, approximately 1 in 4 citizens will be aged 65 and above by 2030. Female life expectancy in Singapore is 85.9 years, meaning women spend nearly one-third of their lives in the postmenopausal state [1].
Menopause typically occurs between ages 45–55 with the average age of natural menopause in Singapore approximately 49 years.
A Singapore study involving 1,054 women aged 45-69 found that 62.6% experienced severe menopausal symptoms. Common concerns included joint and muscle discomfort, sleep problems, vaginal dryness, physical and mental tiredness and hot flushes. Recent Singapore data also highlighted the significant burden of menopausal symptoms and the need to improve access to appropriate care.
About Our Clinic
Our clinic supports women with troublesome or complex menopause related concerns including poor sleep, mood changes, joint and muscle discomfort and vaginal dryness plus urinary incontinence.
We also assess women with early menopause or premature ovarian insufficiency medically or surgically induced menopause and women who require more detailed assessment because of existing medical conditions or concerns about current menopause treatment.
Care is personalised and includes lifestyle and healthy ageing advice, assessment of cardiovascular and bone health, menopause hormone therapy (MHT/HRT) where appropriate, non-hormonal therapies and referral to other specialists or allied health professionals when needed. Our aim is to help each woman understand her options and make an informed treatment decision that reflects her personal references.
Our approach is guided by current evidence and recognized menopause guidance, including the recent launch of Singapore Guidelines on Management of the menopause Transition, Singapore Menopause Guideline and NICE Guideline on Menopause: Identification and Management (NG23) [2].
Our team supports public talks, health education sessions to improve awarenesses regarding perimenopause and menopause, address common misconceptions about the MHT/HRT and encourage women to seek help when symptoms affect their health or quality of life.
