ASD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects about one in 150 children in Singapore. It is typically characterised by challenges in social communication and repetitive patterns, behaviours, interests or activities.

The condition may be mild, moderate or severe, depending on how much assistance the individual needs in their daily life. In more severe cases, support may be required to help them communicate, understand routines and perform everyday tasks. For many caregivers and families, this can mean navigating challenging moments of frustration and worries about the future.
Having ASD does not mean a person cannot thrive. Well-known figures, such as animal behaviourist Temple Grandin, have spoken publicly about living with the condition, reminding us that individuals with ASD can lead fulfilling lives with the right support.
