Collection Instructions:
For non-stool specimens and specimens not listed, please call Medical Microbiology laboratory (6361 1205 or 1209) to inform us before specimen collection as this requires arrangement with the referral laboratory.
Send specimen to the laboratory immediately.
For stool collection:
1. Do not submit stool for ova, cysts & parasites examination when patient has been hospitalised for more than 72 hours.

2. Collect 2 - 3 specimens on separate days. Extra specimens received on the same day will be rejected.
For terminal urine collection:
1. Terminal urine is the preferred specimen for Schistosomes.

2. Collect at least 2 mL of terminal urine between 10 am and 2 pm.
3. Instruct patient to clean genital area, then start to urinate without collecting the first part and middle part of the urine.
4. Collect only the end-stream of urine.
For respiratory specimen collection:

Unacceptable Conditions:
- Urine in preservative.
- Cellotape on glass slide.
- Stool specimens contaminated with urine or more than 72 hours after hospitalisation.
