This course aims to provide participants with the essential knowledge, skills and attitude for the role of a clinical preceptor for nursing students from pre-registration or pre-enrolment courses.
Overview
The Clinical Preceptorship Course aims to provide participants with the essential knowledge, skills and attitude for the role of a clinical preceptor for nursing students from pre-registration or pre-enrolment courses.
It prepares and develops nurses for their role in welcoming, integrating, supervising, facilitating and assessing nursing students and/or new nurses into the team and place of work.
Target Audience
This course is targeted at nurses who meet the following criteria:
Registered and / or Enrolled nurses working in the clinical setting
Minimum 2 years of clinical experience
Competent in practice

Principles of Preceptorship: Roles and Responsibilities of a Clinical Preceptor
Adult Learning Principles and Learning Styles
Clinical Supervision
Effective Communication Skills and Giving Feedback
Skill Practice: Conduct a session
Expected Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the learners will be able to:
Discuss the role and responsibilities of a clinical preceptor
Describe the adult learning approach
Communicate, supportive and giving feedback
Act as professional role models in clinical practice
Reflect on the quality of all aspects of one’s preceptorship role
For External Participants
External participants are required to submit their job description and a list of assessors from their respective institutions during course registration. This ensures that the assessors meet the minimum requirements, enabling participants to have adequate opportunities for hands-on practice in their own institutions.
On-Job-Training (OJT) will be managed by the participants’ respective organisations. Participants are required to complete a self-evaluation logsheet, endorsed by their nursing supervisor, within 3 months and submit it to Woodlands Health.
