Patient Preparation:For fasting blood, it is recommended that patient has fasted for 8 to 12 hours prior to having the blood taken.
Specimen Type:

Serum

Whole blood (EDTA)

Plasma (Sodium Fluoride)

Container / Tube Type:

SSTII, Yellow top, 5mL or

Plain, Red top, 6mL or

PST, Light green top, 5mL (for polyclinic use only), and

EDTA, Purple Top, 3mL, and

Sodium Fluoride, Grey top, 2mL

Minimum Volume:

5mL (SSTII/Plain/PST)

3mL (EDTA)

2mL (Sodium Fluoride)
