- Explain the importance of mentoring in professional development
- Differentiate the various roles including Coaching , Mentoring including the context where applied
- Recognise the states of a mentoring relationship including the transitions between them
- Define the roles and responsibilities of mentors and mentees in fostering a successful mentoring relationship.
- Develop and practice key mentoring skills including:
- Build Trusting Professional Relationship with the application of an arsenal of skill-sets including:
- Active Listening
- Empathetic reflections using PEARLS
- OARS MI strategies
- Encourage greater self-reflection for self and the mentee
- Tap onto the principles of self-determination theory (competence, autonomy and relatedness) to bring out mentee’s intrinsic motivation.
- Encourage mentee to conduct self-assessment from multiple source of information including feedback
- Guide the mentee using:
- the GROW (Goal, Reality, Options and Will) model
- ARTful (Ask, Response, Teach) framework of communication
- Build Trusting Professional Relationship with the application of an arsenal of skill-sets including:
- Encourage the setting of ISMART Goals
- Formulating action planning towards achieving mentee Goals
- Providing effective feedback (using different strategies including ARTful feedback)
- Hone core Facilitation Skills by:
- Applying Adult learning principles (FAIR principles)
- Co-creating agenda with inclusion of time management strategies
- Asking Insightful Questions
- Creating Psychological Safety
- Being Culturally Competent
- Address challenging mentoring scenarios using appropriate tools and strategies.
- Identify situations where confidentiality may need to be breached and the steps to manage such situations professionally.
