In healthcare settings many healthcare personnel are required to assume multiple roles of being a supervisor, preceptor, coach or mentor, all at the same time. It’s important to be aware of some of the subtle nuances and differences between being a coach and a mentor. This in addition to embracing the required skill-sets to be an effective coach or mentor.

  3. Recognise the nuances between the skills sets for Mentoring versus Coaching
  4. Describe the Stages of Mentoring
  5. Apply the GROW model of Coaching
  6. Describe the roles and responsibilities of mentors and coaches
  7. Show empathetic responses and perceptive reflections to emotions and feelings expressed
  8. Apply ARTFul feedback model in coaching /mentoring communications
  9. Understand self-determination theory (autonomy, relatedness and competence) and its role in motivation in coaching and mentoring
