This session provides an introduction to stroke recovery, highlighting the role of neuroplasticity and the International Classification of Functioning (ICF) framework in guiding rehabilitation. It covers the principles of stroke rehabilitation and the multidisciplinary nature of a neurorehabilitation team, with case examples illustrating common post-stroke complications such as spasticity, hemiplegic shoulder pain, and cognitive or mood changes, including management strategies and appropriate referral time points.

By the end of the session, participants will understand stroke recovery processes, the ICF framework in the context of stroke, the components of neurorehabilitation, and the identification and management of common rehabilitation complications, including when to refer patients to specialist care.
